Why We Worship
Worship is a primary way that Jesus comes to us in word. See Colossians 3:16
We believe, teach, and confess that Jesus Christ is physically present in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. All the benefits of Holy Communion come to those participating in this holy meal. The church is the only place to receive this meal and its benefits of life, forgiveness, strengthened faith and eternal life.
It is where God’s people gather to praise and worship God, the hear his word, to pray and support each other in Christian love. Such gathering is commanded by God for his church, of which Jesus Christ is the cornerstone. Such gathering brings God’s presence as he says, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them.”
It is our way of fully appreciating the meaning of the third commandment to Remember the Sabbath Day by Keeping it holy. Martin Luther’s Catechism reminds us what this means? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and his Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.
In our worship service, the pastor wears a white robe, reminding all that he is a man, called by God to serve in the place of Jesus and by his command. He proclaims the Word of God, salvation through Jesus Christ, and forgiveness of sins for the sake of Jesus, who died on the cross to accomplish that gift.
