Why did a loving God kill the entire Egyptian army of people?

God’s love is protecting his people

The people group known as the children of Israel were, in fact, descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who had received the promise that God would make them into a blessed and prosperous nation. After over 300 years of living in exile from their homeland of Canaan, they become slaves in the land of Egypt.

After some years of torturous living as slaves, God rescued them and proved himself to the world as the Almighty, invisible God. A short time after the freed Israel was heading into the Sinai desert – the pharaoh of Egypt changed his mind and decided to destroy them with his army. But God intervened. “And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.” (Exodus 14:13, ESV) The legendary saving story was God parting the (Red) Reed Sea so that 600,000 people of Israel could safely cross on dry land. Then God acted again. “The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them remained.” (Exodus 14:28, ESV)

In doing so, God lovingly used his power to protect his people by destroying the powerful army pursuing them to destroy them. Thus, Egypt and the rest of the world came to know that Israel’s God fights for them. That put fear in the nations so that they did not attack the people of Israel for many years.
