God is Omnipresent
Do you ever wonder how God can be with you, even dwelling in your heart? Even more compelling, how is God with the president of the United States as I prayed for him to be this morning? We know that he is because the Bible tells us that God is everywhere, “Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 23:24, ESV) Filling heaven and earth is more pervasive than a sprinkling of him here or there in spot appearances. It is way more miraculous than the myth of Santa Claus being able to visit every home and apartment in the world in one night. God is everywhere all at once. He is omnipresent.
Jesus Christ is in your heart through the Spirit’s power
Even better than just being everywhere in the universe, the Bible gives us the clear promise that Jesus is living in those of us that have faith in him. It says, “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith,” and “In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” (Eph. 3:17, 22 ESV) It takes great faith to believe God is living inside all true believers at the same time and always. No matter how hard we try, we can’t wrap our sinful, simple minds around this. It is one of the “operative attributes” of God: divine actions operating on or in relation to this world. These include omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, justice, and mercy. It comes down to simply believe in his words, “do I not fill heaven and earth?”
